Tasmanian-based forest services company, Mechanised Logging (MechLog), has won a top award for Workplace Health & Safety at the prestigious Tasmanian Forests and Forest Products Network TasmanianTimber Awards. Tasmanian Timber Awards winners were announced at a Gala Awards Dinner, held on Friday September 10 in Launceston.

MechLog’s CEO, Jillian Aylett Brown, said that MechLog was very proud to have won an award for Excellence in Workplace Health & Safety, given that the whole industry has worked tirelessly over many years to improve the reputation and standing of the forestry sector in this area.

“MechLog was nominated as a finalist in three categories, so it is an honour to have received a Highly Commended award for Harvesting Excellence and to win an award for Excellence in Workplace Health and Safety. We are particularly proud to have won this award as safety in the workplace is critically important to every employee at MechLog,” Jillian said.

“As far as Work Health and Safety is concerned, we are extremely proud of MechLog’s unrivalled safety record. Since we commenced operations in 1994, we have maintained an exemplary standard relating to Work Health and Safety. We work exceedingly hard to ensure the day-to-day safety of every employee and make everyone part of the discussions and implementation of safety planning and procedures.

“Winning this award is a credit to every staff member who contributes to the success of MechLog on a daily basis. We are proud of our workforce, their dedication to excellence, and their commitment to the timber and forest products industry. They are a credit to themselves, to MechLog, and the forestry sector.

“Since commencing operations in 1994, MechLog’s philosophy has always been to lead by example. We always strive to be an industry leader in forestry practices both in Tasmania, and more recently in South Australia, where we have made a significant investment in our operations and sector employment.

“On behalf of the whole team at MechLog, I would like to congratulate all of the Tasmanian Timber Awards finalists, particularly the winners who faced strong competition from their peers. I would also like to thank and congratulate the Tasmanian Forests and Forest Products Network organisation for conceiving the awards to promote the industry,” Jillian said.

Now in their second year, the Tasmania Forests and Forest Practices Network Tasmanian Timber Awards recognises excellence and best practice within the Tasmanian forestry industry. Each of the 14 categories recognise individuals and companies for their dedication to best practice, excellence and leadership in their particular roles or business activities. The awards were not held in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions.
