MechLog Nominated For Three Prestigious Tasmanian Timber Awards

2019 Finalists in the ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Timber Industry (female)’ Jillian Aylett Brown (MechLog), Penny Wells (Private Forests Tasmania), and Emma Barker (Sustainable Timbers Tasmania).

Tasmanian based forest services company, Mechanised Logging (MechLog) has been nominated for three prestigious Tasmanian Timber Awards.

Now in its second year, the Tasmania Forests and Forest Practices Network (TFFPN) Tasmanian Timber Awards recognises excellence and best practice within the Tasmanian forestry industry. Each of the 14 categories recognise individuals and companies for their dedication to best practice, excellence and leadership in their particular roles or business activities.

Following its success in the inaugural awards in 2019, winning four awards, MechLog is a finalist in the three categories in which it nominated – Harvesting Excellence, Skill Development and Training Excellence, and Workplace Health and Safety.

MechLog’s CEO, Jillian Aylett Brown, said that everyone within the company is so proud to be a finalist in the three categories in which MechLog nominated.

“MechLog is proud to be an industry leader in forestry practices both in Tasmania, where we started, and now in South Australia, where we have expanded our operations,” Jillian said.

“Just to be a finalist in categories including Harvesting Excellence, Skill Development and Training Excellence, and Workplace Health and Safety, which form the foundation of any forestry service business, is an absolute honour for MechLog and a testament to the commitment of every one of our 40 staff across our national operations.

“Much of what we do at MechLog, relating to skills development and training, has been developed in-house; and it is gratifying to see other forestry companies following our lead. MechLog’s hope is that they have been inspired by what we are doing, as far as adopting a proactive approach to training and upskilling our workforce.

“As far as Work Health and Safety is concerned, we are extremely proud of MechLog’s unrivalled safety record. Since we commenced operations in 1994, we have maintained an exemplary standard relating to Work Health and Safety. We work exceedingly hard to ensure the day-to-day safety of every employee and make everyone part of the discussions and implementation of safety planning and procedures.

“The Tasmanian Timber awards also represent an opportunity for the whole industry to gather and share their experiences and to cooperate to improve the profile and standing of the forestry sector,” Jillian said.

The 2021 TFFPN Tasmanian Timber Awards winners will be announced at a Gala Awards Dinner on Friday September 10, 2021, at the Albert Hall, Launceston. The awards were not held during 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions.
